In my prayer and bible reading time this morning, the Lord brought me to Leviticus 25:25. Sometimes we struggle through stuff, so then we turn to God's word for comfort. And He comforts us, Amen?
So what makes God our great redeemer?
A historical background.
Leviticus 25:25
New Living Translation (NLT)
25 If one of your fellow Israelites falls into poverty and is forced to sell some family land, then a close relative should buy it back for him.
The Redeeming Relative
In ancient Israel, by contrast, people generally could count on some family member to step forward with financial support if poverty forced them into slavery or caused them to lose their land. This relative was called a "redeeming relative" (Lev. 25:25) or "kinsman-redeemer."
The redeeming relative was usually a male relation-a brother, an uncle, a cousin (Lev. 25:48-49)-provided to protect the clan. The Hebrew word used for this kinsman means "one who has the right to redeem."
An Israelite could sell himself, his family, or his land(Lev 25:39-43) in case of poverty. But the redeeming relative had the first option by law to buy back any land or person being sold, thus allowing ownership to be kept within the clan (Lev. 25:23-28; Jer. 32:6-10).
So the redeeming relative was an important figure in Israelite culture. As this is comparable to an African living in the western world-African clans see them as redeeming relatives.
Boaz The Kinsman
The importance of a redeeming relative is well illustrated by the story of Ruth, the great-grandmother of King David. Boaz, a kinsman of Ruth's mother-in-law, acted as a redeemer by marrying Ruth. Please read in your own time the book of Ruth to find out more about God used this ancient custom to accomplish His purpose.
Baba God Our Redeemer
In fact, God Himself is often represented in the Old Testament as a redeemer (Deut. 7:8; 2 Sam. 7:23). Likewise, in the New Testament, Jesus is described as our brother who redeems us from the power of sin (Heb. 2:11-12, Col. 1:13).
Colossians 1:13
New Living Translation (NLT)
13 For he has redeemed us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son,
God be praised for He is my redeemer and comforter. He restores everything I've lost even if I sold myself out or came short of His glory. He buys me and my wife, kids, father, mother and family back as His word says. It's so awesome to have God on our side.
God wants to redeem you. Don't wait any longer. Come to Him and receive Him as your Lord and personal saviour. He loves you. Jesus is your redeeming kinsman, sent by God to buy you back from your emotional turmoil, stress, your past, pain, hurts and to redeem you from the hands of the enemy. To give you a future beyond comprehension.
Job 19:25
New International Version (NIV)
God is our redeemer indeed!!!!
I love you.
